Rajkot University Canteen Raided: 14 Child Laborers Rescued

In a shocking revelation, a joint operation carried out by the Labor Department, Child Protection Department, and local police authorities has led to the rescue of 14 child laborers from the canteen of RK University located on Bhavnagar Road in Rajkot. Legal proceedings against the canteen operators have been initiated following the raid, which took place on Thursday.

The state Labor Department conducts monthly operations across various districts with the aim of eradicating child labor. This recent raid, led by the Labor Commissioner and the Child Protection Department, exposed a distressing reality at RK University's canteen.

The rescued children had been brought from Rajasthan to work in the canteen, highlighting a broader issue of child labor trafficking in the region. Following the rescue, the children have been released, while the authorities are ensuring that the canteen operators face the full brunt of the law for their actions.

This incident follows other similar rescues in the region. Recently, 137 child laborers from Rajasthan were freed in Surat, while a separate operation in Narol, Ahmedabad led to the rescue of more than 10 child laborers. These incidents underline the continued efforts by the authorities to combat the problem of child labor and the need for greater vigilance in institutions across the state.
