US President Donald Trump referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his great friend and stated that India can trust him 100 percent. Trump made these remarks during a phone call at an event held in New Delhi to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The call was facilitated by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore. Trump mentioned that the US and India have never been closer and that India can fully trust him and the US. He added that if India ever needs help, they know where to call and can reach out directly.
The grand event at Bharat Mandapam was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Gore. Gore put the call on speakerphone so that everyone in the hall could hear Trump's voice.
Trump expressed his greetings to everyone, shared his admiration for Prime Minister Modi, and wished everyone a pleasant evening. He praised the US economy, claiming that it and the stock market are at record levels. During the event, Trump referred to Rubio as 'the greatest Secretary of State in American history' and asked to convey his regards to Prime Minister Modi, stating that he is a big fan of Modi.
Earlier, in his brief address, Secretary of State Marco Rubio described India as an extremely important partner for the US. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, in his speech, noted that the Declaration of American Independence gave rise to ideas that shaped the modern world, such as individual freedom, the rule of law, freedom of expression, and accountable governance.
He remarked that given India's pluralistic society and rich history of consultative culture, the resonance of these ideas is natural in India. The highlight of the evening was a stunning performance by musician A.
R. Rahman.
