Surat: BJP's victorious candidates active in the field even before becoming corporators

After the results of the Surat Municipal Corporation elections were announced, victorious candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have become active in the field without officially becoming corporators. Before the gazette notification was issued, many newly elected candidates were seen inspecting roads, drainage, water, and sanitation systems in their respective areas along with municipal officials.

It has become a topic of discussion in the city that several victorious candidates are seen enthusiastically directing officials. Currently, these candidates are showing proactivity regarding public issues in their electoral areas and participating in various social and community programs as 'corporators'. The BJP won a record 115 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections, with 73 candidates set to become corporators for the first time.

However, the official gazette notification from the state's urban development department has not yet been issued, yet many victorious candidates have intensified their regional activities. According to sources, some leaders are continuously visiting the field in hopes of securing positions and places in committees. Photos taken during inspections with municipal officials are also being shared on social media.

This is being viewed in political circles as a strategy to secure positions in the upcoming standing committee and other important committees. In several areas, one or two victorious candidates were seen touring with a team of officials, leading to discussions of discontent among other panel members.

Meanwhile, there are questions among the general public about whether this proactivity will continue for the next five years or if it will be limited to initial political enthusiasm. Currently, this rush that began after the election results has become the center of discussion in Surat's politics.
