Massive Crowd in Surat for 'Gau Mata' to be Declared 'Rashtra Mata
The rally coordinator Dinesh Sharma (Beard) stated that a massive public movement and rally was organized in Surat, Gujarat on Thursday, May 7, as part of the ongoing 'Go Samman Aahwan Abhiyan' across India. During this event, a large number of cow devotees donated blood and raised the demand for declaring 'Gau Mata' as 'Rashtra Mata'.
They also prominently called for a complete ban on cow slaughter, a central law for cow protection, and the establishment of a Ministry of Cow Welfare at the central level. According to the organizers, this rally was held to demand national recognition for 'Gau Mata', similar to the national animal lion and national bird peacock. Thousands of male and female cow devotees participated in the event.
From 7 AM on Thursday, cow devotees began gathering in the Millennium Market area on Ring Road. By 9 AM, a huge crowd had formed there. Following this, a massive rally approximately one and a half to two kilometers long was taken out from Ring Road.
Nandi Baba was the center of attraction at the front of the rally, with a large number of cow devotees walking behind holding banners and flags. The procession featured the sounds of bands and devotional slogans, and a cart with saints and a bulldozer displaying a copy of signatures from cow devotees attracted public attention. A memorandum wrapped in velvet cloth, containing the signatures of five lakh cow devotees, was also showcased on the bulldozer.
Prominent social activists, including the devoted Kapil Didi, Gopal Saraswati, and Arun Patodia, participated in the rally. During the rally, various social and religious organizations provided services for the cow devotees. Cold drinks were distributed to devotees at the Samolai Hanuman Temple on Ring Road, while kachoris and khichdi were distributed upon arrival at Vanita Vishram.
Despite the intense heat, the attendance at the event was reported to be around 8,000 to 10,000 cow devotees. At the conclusion of the rally, a delegation submitted a memorandum of their demands at the collector's office.
The delegation included Kapil Didi Saraswati, Arun Patodia, Dinesh Sharma (Beard), Lalit Sharma, Raghuveer Singh, JP Sharma, Lakshmi Narayan, Nainaram, Om Ji Kela, and Satyanarayan Chandak, among others. The organizers stated that this campaign is not just a matter of religious faith, but a broad public movement connected to Indian culture, cow protection, and the rural economy.
