Rajkot: Administration on Alert Ahead of Monsoon, Special Deployment of Officials in Every Taluka
In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon, the Rajkot administration has intensified preparations. In a crucial meeting held at the collector's office, directives were issued for the effective implementation of the district's disaster management plan.
A total of 12 officials, including a deputy collector in each taluka, have been assigned special duties to address emergencies such as heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Additionally, all staff have been instructed to be present at their respective workplaces during storm or heavy rain warnings. The meeting, chaired by District Development Officer Anandu Suresh Govind, emphasized the need for various departments to ensure preparedness for rescue and evacuation operations during the monsoon.
He directed the immediate removal of obstacles that could impede water flow and called for a study of previously flooded areas to find permanent solutions. There was also an emphasis on prohibiting potential water sports activities in the district before the monsoon begins. Resident Additional Collector N.K.
Muchhare instructed the timely removal of dilapidated electric poles, dangerous hoardings on tall buildings, and other hazardous structures. The meeting stressed prioritizing effective measures to prevent loss of life during the monsoon. It was mentioned that in the event of any accidents, all procedures, including post-mortems, should be completed promptly to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected.
Furthermore, departments such as Panchayat, Construction, Health, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry were directed to hold meetings with their staff to take necessary precautions. Plans were made to establish 24-hour flood control rooms at the taluka level starting June 1 and to strengthen communication systems. Instructions were also given to identify low-lying areas, prepare a list of safe locations, and arrange for swimmers and rescue equipment in advance.
The administration directed the relevant departments to inspect dams and canals, clean riverbeds, place warning boards on dilapidated buildings, and ensure the safety of grains in government warehouses. The meeting was attended by various departmental officials, provincial officers, Mamlatdars, taluka development officers, and chief officers of municipal corporations.
