Government Restructures NITI Aayog

The government has restructured NITI Aayog, appointing Ashok Kumar Lahiri as Vice Chairman and five full-time members, including economist K.V. Raju, Director of AIIMS M. Srinivasan, and Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology Abhay Karandikar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Lahiri and the new full-time members, including scientist Gobardhan Das and former Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, for their tenure. He posted on the social media platform 'X' that the government has restructured NITI Aayog and congratulated Lahiri on his appointment as Vice Chairman, as well as Rajiv Gauba, K.V. Raju, Gobardhan Das, Abhay Karandikar, and M. Srinivasan on becoming full-time members. He expressed hope for their successful and effective tenures.

The Prime Minister noted that NITI Aayog has emerged as a significant pillar in India's policy framework, promoting cooperative federalism, advancing reforms, and encouraging ease of living. He stated that it serves as a dynamic platform for innovation and long-term strategic thinking across various sectors. The Prime Minister is the Chairman of NITI Aayog.

Following his appointment, Lahiri met with the Prime Minister on Saturday. Lahiri, a BJP legislator from West Bengal, has previously served as the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India and as a member of the 15th Finance Commission. He is not a candidate in the ongoing assembly elections in the state.
