Land Reclamation Underway in Surat's Katargam Zone

Demolition Action Initiated under TP Scheme to Clear Encroachments Around Newly Constructed Vade-Variav Bridge

Land Reclamation Underway in Surat's Katargam Zone

Surat, India: The Katargam Zone administration has initiated decisive action to reclaim land around the newly erected Vade-Variav Bridge, which was facing undue pressure from earthen mounds and poorly structured constructions. This demolition effort commenced early morning under the area's TP scheme to relieve congestion around the bridge.

The brand-new Wade Variav Bridge was dealing with immense environmental stress due to the surrounding build-up. In response, the corporation initiated a demolition operation. Upon arriving at the site in the morning, officers discovered heaps of mud alongside the bridge and the adjoining road, as well as numerous unsightly structures. The task of removing these constructions has started, with completion expected by the evening.

The Junior Engineer of the Katargam Zone, Hemant Patel, explained that while the Wade-Variav Bridge was recently opened to the public, it was quickly found that some properties had encroached upon up to three meters of the 36-meter TP Road. The final TP plan in the East Zone has been approved, and a three-meter space is being cordoned off along the TP line.

On the west end of the bridge, a separate TP exists, but the TP plan for the west side is still awaiting final approval. Once approved, that land too will be taken over by the corporation. The demolition efforts are currently underway, with no incidents reported so far. Local farmers have been cooperative with the authorities throughout the process of this land reclamation.

The ongoing action in Katargam Zone is an example of the administration's proactive approach in addressing infrastructural challenges in the rapidly developing city of Surat.
