Chetan Bhagat, the favorite author of the youth, turns 50; learn how his stories have made history on the cinematic screen

Chetan Bhagat, a renowned author, celebrates his 50th birthday today. His popular books have inspired films that have redefined love, friendship, and career struggles in Bollywood.

Bhagat is one of the most influential writers bridging Indian literature and Bollywood, entertaining readers and providing cult films to the cinematic world. Born on April 22, 1974, Chetan's writing is characterized by its ability to connect with the youth, presenting themes of love, friendship, career struggles, and family relationships in a simple yet impactful manner. Almost every major book of his has been adapted into successful films that have set new records at the box office.

The remarkable success of '3 Idiots' and 'Kai Po Che' is based on his novel 'Five Point Someone', which sparked a significant debate on the country's education system and the mental pressure on students. This film taught society to prioritize passion over chasing degrees or numbers. Meanwhile, 'Kai Po Che', inspired by his novel 'The Three Mistakes of My Life', beautifully depicted the socio-political incidents and misunderstandings that come between friendship and dreams.

Starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajkummar Rao, this film received critical acclaim. Through his stories, Bhagat has also effectively illustrated the complexities of Indian marriages and modern relationships. 'Two States' showcased the love story of a Punjabi boy and a Tamil girl, highlighting that marriage in India is not just a union of two individuals but a coming together of two families.

In this context, the 2017 film 'Half Girlfriend' presented the story of a boy from Bihar (Madhav) who seeks love amidst language barriers and incomplete recognition of relationships. The struggle for dreams and his journey in Bollywood is also memorable with the film 'Hello', based on his novel 'One Night at the Call Center', which depicted the challenges faced by young people working in call centers and a magical twist in their lives (a call from God).

Chetan Bhagat's stories have not only provided new narratives to cinema but have also developed a genre that resonates with the youth of the country. On his 50th birthday, his timeless works and the films based on them are being remembered once again.
