The political atmosphere has intensified regarding the Municipal Corporation elections in 2026. The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its 'Sankalp Patra-2026' with the goal of 'this time 120'.
Based on the theme 'New Surat, New Hope', this manifesto includes several major promises to make the city smart and modern. While releasing the manifesto, Gujarat's Finance Minister and Surat's in-charge minister Kanubhai Desai stated that the BJP has fulfilled most of its promises in previous years and will continue the pace of development. He mentioned that urbanization in Gujarat has rapidly increased, and major projects like metro and health facilities are underway in Surat.
The manifesto includes a significant announcement of providing free education from KG to college, along with plans to rapidly develop the Surat Economic Zone and make the city a hub for business and employment. Considering the growing population, there is also a proposal to develop Bardoli as a satellite city. The BJP has presented plans for solar projects to make the city self-reliant in electricity, along with permanent measures to prevent flooding in the Gulf and development of the Dumas area.
The manifesto also mentions the implementation of new technology to generate carbon-based electricity from waste under solid waste management. According to the manifesto, the municipality will now also step into the field of higher education, with plans to start new colleges in modern subjects like AI, robotics, and drone technology, providing students with affordable and modern education. For traffic solutions in the city, a 'One City One Card' (common mobility card) scheme has been promised, allowing travel on metro, BRTS, and city buses with a single card.
Additionally, there are plans to expedite the completion of the metro project. To strengthen fire safety, a 104-meter high aerial ladder platform will be established. The plan also includes implementing a drone surveillance system and constructing a new administrative building 107.60 meters high.
The riverfront project along the Tapi will be expanded to promote tourism, with goals to enhance tourism through Dumas Beach Phase-2 and new theme parks. The manifesto also includes plans related to religious traditions and animal welfare. Overall, the BJP's manifesto focuses on development, technology, and infrastructure expansion, making the competition in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections even more interesting.
