Surat: Relief for City Residents in Severe Heat: Traffic Signals to Remain Closed During Afternoon
W
In Surat city, amidst severe heat of 39.8 degrees, the traffic police have made an important decision to provide relief to citizens. From April 15, traffic signals on major roads will be closed from 1 PM to 4 PM.
During this time, at intersections with less traffic, signals will operate in blinking mode. The traffic police have clarified that safety will not be compromised during this arrangement. Traffic police personnel and members of the traffic brigade will be deployed at major intersections and sensitive locations to control vehicle movement and ensure accident prevention.
Additionally, to provide relief from the intense sunlight, artificial shades have been created for two-wheeler riders on four main roads in the city. Under these shades, bikers will be able to shield themselves from the sun. The police have appealed to four-wheeler drivers to prioritize two-wheeler riders by allowing them to stand under the shade to prevent issues like heatstroke.
The traffic police have urged citizens to voluntarily follow traffic rules during this time and to exercise caution while crossing the road. Adhering to the instructions of police personnel will help maintain smooth traffic flow. It is noteworthy that the temperature in Surat has been continuously rising in recent days.
According to the meteorological department, a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on April 14, with forecasts indicating further increases in the coming days. With the mercury nearing 40 degrees during the afternoon, heatwave-like conditions are developing on the roads, increasing risks especially for two-wheeler riders.
