Indian Army Revive Ancient Himalayan Trails Through Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0
113-km high-altitude endurance run to reconnect historic Badrinath-Kedarnath routes, blending heritage, adventure and national participation
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 09: The Indian Army, in association with IconMetrix, is set to breathe new life into the traditional paths of the Himalayas with the Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0. This 113-km high-altitude endurance event, scheduled for April 16-20, 2026, will see participants traverse the historic Badrinath–Kedarnath corridor to blend the spirit of adventure with deep cultural reverence for the sacred “Devbhoomi.”
The initiative focuses on rediscovering traditional trails that have connected Himalayan communities for centuries. The Indian Army aims to promote the region’s heritage, while IconMetrix, as the Strategic Partner, ensures the event is executed with modern professional standards that respect the local ecosystem. The 113-km route is a journey through history, passing through villages that are guardians of the Himalayan way of life. Vikramm Sanas has emphasized that the event is an “exploration of the soul” as much as a test of the body’s limits.
Vikramm Sanas remarked on the cultural tie-ins: “The Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0 is more than a Himalayan trail run; it is an engagement with our roots. IconMetrix is proud to support the Indian Army in building a national platform that highlights the cultural and strategic significance of the Uttarakhand Himalayas for a pan-India audience. We are ensuring these sacred trails are respected and celebrated by the modern runner who seeks deeper meaning in their journey.”
Major Pushpendra Singh Rathod added, “The challenge is designed to test mental and physical resilience while fostering a deep respect for the terrain’s heritage.” The event is inclusive, inviting civilians to run alongside veterans and personnel from the Navy and Air Force, creating a diverse community bonded by endurance. The three-day run requires participants to navigate the same paths once used by pilgrims and traders of old, fostering a profound sense of connection to the land.
The five-day program begins with an Expo on April 16, inaugurated by CDS General Anil Chauhan, and ends with a ceremony expected to be attended by Pushkar Singh Dhami, The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. This collaboration between the Indian Army and IconMetrix ensures that as participants push their physical limits over 113 kilometres, they also gain a profound understanding of India’s Himalayan soul. Through this initiative, the beauty and grit of the Himalayas are being rediscovered by a new generation of Indians.
