Surat: City BJP unit's silent protest against Kharge's statement, demonstrating with black bands
Political tensions have escalated in Surat following Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's alleged statement. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Surat Metropolitan Unit, led by city president Pareshbhai Patel, held a silent protest at the Gujarat Gas Circle in Adajan.
The BJP has expressed strong objections to Kharge's comments about Gujaratis made during election campaigning in Kerala. Party leaders stated that this statement has hurt the sentiments of the people of Gujarat. During the protest, workers peacefully registered their dissent by covering their mouths with black bands and displaying banners with messages such as 'Gujarat's identity is our pride'.
The statement has also been condemned at the state level, with Bhupendra Patel, Harsh Sanghvi, and Jagdish Vishwakarma criticizing it as unfortunate. The protest was attended by Surat Lok Sabha MP Mukeshbhai Dalal, BJP Metropolitan General Secretary Karshanbhai Gondalia, Viral Gilitwala, Durga Prasad Pandey, former mayor Daksheshbhai Mavani, Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel, Women's Wing President Jagruti Ben Desai, Youth Wing President Bipin Talavia, along with a large number of officials and workers. BJP leaders clarified that any comments against the honor of Gujarat will not be tolerated and that democratic protests against such statements will continue.
