Telangana Government to Train Transgender Individuals in Drone Operation, Hotel Management, and Driving
The Telangana government has initiated a skill development program aimed at training transgender individuals in drone operation, hotel management, and driving. A.
Lakshman Kumar, the state's Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens, and Transgender Persons, inaugurated the program on Saturday, stating that the government is making several efforts to enable the transgender community to live with respect and dignity in society. According to an official release, he mentioned that the government is seriously addressing the long-standing social and economic challenges faced by the transgender community. The minister highlighted that the government is focusing on education, skill development, and employment opportunities for transgender individuals to help them achieve economic self-reliance and self-respect.
Under this program, 50 transgender individuals will receive driving training through the 'Maruti Suzuki Driving School', enabling them to secure jobs as drivers and pursue self-employment opportunities. Additionally, 25 transgender individuals will be trained in hotel management and as canteen chefs through the 'National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management' (NITHM), facilitating their employment in hotels, restaurants, and catering institutions. The release stated that 16 transgender individuals will receive drone pilot training at the 'Telangana State Aviation Academy' located in Begumpet.
Drone technology is rapidly in demand in sectors such as agriculture, surveying, and industry. A total of 91 transgender individuals will be trained under these three programs, with an expenditure of 17.72 lakh rupees, for which the government has allocated a special budget.
Following the suggestion of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Hyderabad police had previously appointed transgender individuals as traffic assistants to aid police personnel.
