Tragic Road Accident in Nashik Claims Lives of 9 from Same Family
A heartbreaking accident occurred late Friday night in Nashik's Dindori taluka, resulting in the deaths of nine people, including six students. The Daragode family was returning home in their Ertiga car after a social gathering organized by a private coaching class at a wedding venue in the Shivajinagar area.
Around 10:00 PM, the car lost control and fell into an open well located in a nearby field. All nine occupants of the car drowned in the deep well filled with water, causing a sensation in the area and turning a joyful atmosphere into deep mourning. Upon receiving news of the accident, local fire brigade, police, and disaster management teams rushed to the scene.
However, the high water level in the well posed significant challenges for rescue operations. Due to darkness and deep water, rescuers faced considerable difficulties, and eventually, a large crane was used to retrieve the car from the well late at night. By that time, all the occupants had already lost their lives.
Police Inspector Bhagwan Mathure reported that the deceased included Sunil Daragode, Rakhi, Asha, Shrishti, Shreyash, Madhuri, Samruddhi, Reshma, and Shravani. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. This tragic incident has raised serious questions about safety standards near marriage gardens and public events.
Eyewitnesses stated that the absence of a boundary or safety enclosure around the well prevented the driver from maintaining control of the vehicle in the dark. The Nashik district administration has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter to ascertain the exact causes of the accident.
The Chief Minister's office has also expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the affected family. Since Saturday morning, a large crowd of villagers has gathered outside the Dindori police station, demanding strict action against those responsible.
