Surat: Mechanic Arrested for Drug Trade Under AC Repairing

Surat, April 3 — A shocking case of illegal drug trade has emerged in the Gopi Pura area of Surat, where methamphetamine (MD) was being sold under the guise of AC repairing. The Surat Crime Branch has arrested one suspect, while the main supplier remains at large.

A raid was conducted at the Jalaram Apartment in Momanawad, Gopi Pura, based on a tip-off received by the police. During the search of flat number 201, a significant quantity of banned MD drugs was recovered. The police seized 214.730 grams of methamphetamine, valued at approximately ₹6.44 lakh.

Additionally, a digital scale used for weighing drugs, two mobile phones, and cash were also confiscated, bringing the total value of the seized items to around ₹6.59 lakh. The police have registered a case against the accused under the NDPS Act and have initiated further action. The arrested suspect, Mohammad Zubair Ghulam Rasul Shah, revealed during interrogation that he previously worked in AC and refrigerator repair but turned to drug trafficking about two years ago due to low earnings.

He disclosed that he obtained the drugs from a resident of Shahpur named Ejaaz, also known as Batla Mushtaq Dyer. The police have declared Ejaaz wanted and have begun searching for him. Authorities also suspect that the accused may have been using his old AC repairing network to facilitate drug supply.

Investigations are ongoing to determine if this network has spread to other youths in the city. The Crime Branch stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and efforts to apprehend the absconding suspects will be intensified soon.
