Nineteenth season of Indian Premier League to begin on March 28 as fans recall bowlers with multiple hat-tricks
New Delhi - The nineteenth season of the Indian Premier League is set to commence on March 28. The opening match of the tournament will be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium.
Throughout the history of the tournament, bowlers have claimed a total of twenty-three hat-tricks, as per agency report. Notably, three bowlers have achieved the feat of taking more than one hat-trick in the league. Yuvraj Singh, known for his explosive batting, was equally effective with the ball. Playing for Punjab Kings in the 2009 season, his spin bowling troubled the batsmen significantly, leading him to take two hat-tricks in that single edition. He remains the only bowler to achieve two hat-tricks in a single season of the tournament. On May 1, 2009, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he dismissed Robin Uthappa, Jacques Kallis, and Mark Boucher on consecutive deliveries. Later in the same season, he claimed his second hat-trick against Deccan Chargers by sending Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds, and Venugopal Rao back to the pavilion.
Amit Mishra holds the unique record of being the only bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to take three hat-tricks. Playing for Delhi Daredevils, which is now known as Delhi Capitals, he secured his first hat-trick in 2008 against Deccan Chargers. Subsequently, in 2011, while representing Deccan Chargers, he dismissed three batsmen of Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings, on consecutive deliveries. He achieved his third hat-trick in 2013 against Pune Warriors while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Indian spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal also has two hat-tricks to his name in the league. In 2022, while playing for Rajasthan Royals, he dismissed three batsmen of Kolkata Knight Riders on consecutive deliveries. He secured his second hat-trick during the 2025 edition of the tournament at the Chepauk stadium against Chennai Super Kings, where he successfully dismissed Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad.
