Union Minister inaugurates and lays foundation stones for multiple development projects in Surat

Surat - Giving a new momentum to development works in the South Zone-B Kanakpur area of Surat, several important projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid on Sunday. The event was presided over by Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil.

During the event, the foundation stone was laid for the widening of the railway overbridge situated on the 90-meter wide state highway connecting Surat to Navsari via Sachin. The estimated cost of this project is reported to be Rs 3539.77 lakh, which is expected to improve the traffic system and strengthen connectivity in the region, as per agency report.

Additionally, a pond, a primary health center, and a Shanti Kunj, developed at a cost of Rs 912.93 lakh, were officially inaugurated. The foundation stones for various other development projects worth Rs 8017.68 lakh were also laid during the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister extended his wishes on World Water Day and stated that Surat has set an example across the country in the fields of water management and cleanliness, alongside overall development. He attributed the city securing the first position nationwide in cleanliness to the collective efforts and determination of its citizens.

He further mentioned that approximately 6,000 rainwater harvesting structures constructed by the Surat Municipal Corporation have played a crucial role in fulfilling the water requirements of the city. Surat is emerging as a city that has already made advance preparations for its water needs for the next fifty years.

Highlighting the education and health facilities, the minister noted that the medical college, SMIMER hospital, and health institutions operated by the municipal corporation are delivering excellent services. He also pointed out that education is being provided in seven different languages in the city, distinguishing it from other cities in the country.

Appreciating the infrastructure development of Surat, he remarked that the upcoming bullet train connectivity from Surat to Bilimora will be a matter of pride for the city. Furthermore, foundation stones were laid for the construction of new flyovers in heavy traffic areas such as the Udhna Teen Rasta Junction and the Sarvottam Hotel Junction. These flyovers are expected to serve as a major relief for passengers and freight vehicles traveling toward the Sachin Industrial Area.

The event witnessed the presence of several prominent figures, including City President Pareshbhai Patel, Member of Parliament Mukeshbhai Dalal, Members of Legislative Assembly Sandeepbhai Desai and Sangitaben Patil, former Mayor Daksheshbhai Mavani, Municipal Corporation President M Nagarajan, and Administrator IAS Milind Torawane. Officials from the Sachin Industries Society, along with a large number of public representatives and workers, were also in attendance.
