Gujarat's CM Bhupendra Patel to Attend NITI Aayog Meeting and Parliament House Inauguration in Delhi

GUJARAT - Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to embark on a two-day visit to Delhi, with the aim of attending the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting and the highly anticipated inauguration of the new Parliament House, scheduled for Sunday, 28 May.

The Gujarat Chief Minister used the occasion to chastise opposition forces, who he believes are expressing inappropriate resistance to the new Parliament building. In his statement, Patel argued that such opposition stands as an affront to the country's democratic values and insults the population of 140 crore Indians.

"The opposition to the new Parliament House and the planned boycott by a total of 19 opposition forces of its inauguration is deplorable," Patel stated. He further argued that such opposition undermines the fundamental principles of democracy, as Parliament represents the heartbeat of the people and the decisions made within its walls have the potential to significantly alter citizens' lives.

The inauguration of the new Parliament House, which has drawn boycott announcements from twenty opposition parties including the Congress, has become a contentious issue. These parties argue that the decision to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the building instead of President Draupadi Murmu constitutes a grave insult and a direct attack on democracy.

Despite the opposition's stance, 25 parties, including the BJP, have confirmed their participation in the inauguration ceremony. Amid the escalating verbal exchanges between the government and the opposition concerning the new Parliament House, the Supreme Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the matter.
