Rajkot Undergoes Major Makeover Ahead of Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference
Rajkot: With the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) focusing on the Saurashtra-Kutch region scheduled for the upcoming January 11 and 12, the city of Rajkot is witnessing a complete transformation to welcome the international-level event. The city is fully prepared with a renewed focus on urban development, as the District Administration and the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) have initiated preparations on a war footing to ensure the success of the conference.
The repair and strengthening of major city roads are progressing rapidly, accompanied by artistic wall paintings, mural arts, and colorful decorations designed to enhance the city's beauty and identity. As per agency report, under the Urban Development Year 2025, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation has completed numerous development works worth crores of rupees under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme. These projects encompass physical and social infrastructure, urban transport systems, and initiatives that strengthen the city's distinct identity. The upcoming VGRC is expected to open new global investment opportunities for the industries and trade sectors of the Saurashtra region, while efforts are also underway to further accelerate the pace of urban development in the year 2026.
For the past month, under the guidance of Mayor Nayanaben Pedhadiya, the Construction, Drainage, and Water Works branches of the RMC have been carrying out road improvement works across the city as per requirement. These works include paver block repairs, asphalt patching and re-carpeting, divider repair and painting, cement concrete paving, and the coloring of murals and sculptures.
In the East Zone, painting work has been completed at Greenland Chowk, the Velnathpara Bridge divider, and the Kaiser-e-Hind Bridge, while paver blocks have been laid on Kuvadva Road. In the West Zone, extensive work has been carried out covering areas such as Raiya Road, Nana Mava Road, Kalavad Road, and Mavdi Road. This includes over 16 kilometers of paver block repairs, more than 6 kilometers of asphalt patching, over 12 kilometers of asphalt re-carpeting, divider repairs spanning more than 10 kilometers, and mural art work covering over 45 kilometers. In the Central Zone, paver block repairs, divider painting, and asphalt re-carpeting have been executed on major routes including the Racecourse Ring Road, the stretch from Sheetal Park Chowk to Ayodhya Chowk, and from Radhe Circle to Gondal Chowkdi.
As part of the city's beautification, the walls of Rajkot are now adorned not just with colors but with positive social messages. Slogans from government campaigns such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat Swachh Gujarat, Jal Hi Jeevan, and Save Environment Save Life are being displayed through wall paintings to inspire citizens and guests attending the conference.
Gujarat remains one of the most urbanized states in the country, and the vision of modern urban development initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister is being carried forward by current Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. The visible transformation in Rajkot serves not only the immediate purpose of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference but also stands as a strong step towards the long-term modernization and development of the city.
