Five laborers injured after structure of under-construction bridge collapses in Gujarat's Valsad

Valsad, December 12. Five laborers sustained injuries when a structure of a bridge currently under construction collapsed in the Valsad district of Gujarat on Friday morning. Officials confirmed the development and provided details regarding the rescue operations and the condition of the workers involved.

The incident took place around 9:15 am while work was being conducted to level the main beam or girder of the bridge situated over the Aurang River. Superintendent of Police Yuvrajsinh Jadeja stated that the five laborers who had been trapped under the debris were rescued and subsequently shifted to a hospital. He confirmed that none of the workers were in critical condition. As per agency report, the local fire department cleared the debris from the site, and the district administration indicated that the incident would be subjected to an investigation.

Valsad District Collector Bhavya Verma informed that out of the five injured persons, four are in stable condition, while one has been kept under observation at the hospital. Verma explained that the accident occurred while ground-level load balancing work for the girder was being carried out, which is a procedure undertaken before the slab is cast. He added that the Roads and Buildings Department will conduct a detailed probe to determine the precise cause of the accident.

An official mentioned that the bridge is being constructed at a cost of 45 crore rupees. The project was approved two years ago, and the official noted that the construction work is expected to be completed within a year.
