Vadodara Health Department Launches Extensive Door-to-Door Leprosy Search Campaign
Vadodara, December 9. The Health Department has launched a special Leprosy Patient Search Campaign across Vadodara city and district to ensure the identification and timely treatment of patients suffering from the disease. This fourteen-day drive commenced on December 8, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until December 27, 2025. Under this initiative, designated teams are visiting homes to raise awareness about the symptoms of leprosy and conduct physical examinations of family members to detect any potential cases.
On Monday, which marked the first day of the campaign, various teams from the Health Department visited 37,648 households and surveyed a population of approximately 1,58,069 individuals. As per agency report, during this initial survey, 601 suspected patients were identified, out of which detailed investigations have already begun for 187 individuals. The administration has mandated that the screening process will cover all citizens above the age of two years to ensure comprehensive monitoring during the drive.
To facilitate this massive exercise, the Vadodara District Administration and the Municipal Corporation have collaborated to form 1,982 teams that will operate over the next fortnight. These teams aim to cover approximately 7,70,027 households and screen around 24,98,999 people. The department has structured the campaign to ensure that ASHA workers and male volunteers receive a daily honorarium of 75 rupees, along with specific incentives for identifying and admitting new patients.
The entire operation is being conducted under strict supervision, with officials ranging from Multipurpose Health Workers to the Chief District Health Officer providing guidance and oversight at all levels. The primary objective of the Health Department is to detect leprosy patients early and connect them with necessary medical treatment, thereby ensuring the disease is brought under complete control through these collective efforts.
