Surat Entrepreneurs Urged to Scale Up as Global MMF Consumption Set to Reach 100 Million Tons by 2030
Surat, December 2. The Global Fabric Resource and Research Centre of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a Textile Festival at Samruddhi in Nanpura, scheduled to run from December 1 to December 8, 2025. During the inaugural function, Ashwin Chandran, Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, New Delhi, provided guidance to entrepreneurs in Surat regarding strategies to achieve global competitiveness in the Man-Made Fiber segment.
Addressing the gathering on the first day of the festival, Ashwin Chandran shed light on global trends within the MMF sector. He pointed out that approximately 60 percent of total fiber consumption worldwide is now in the form of MMF, representing a significant shift from the 40 percent recorded two decades ago. It was further highlighted, as per agency report, that global MMF consumption is projected to reach 100 million tons by 2030, which presents immense opportunities for the Indian textile industry. Chandran cited examples of nations such as China, Vietnam, and Turkey, noting that they have developed strong, rapid, and innovation-driven MMF ecosystems that have made them competitive in the international market.
Chandran acknowledged that Surat has emerged as a significant hub in the domestic MMF textile sector and possesses the capability to compete with countries like China. He emphasized that global buyers currently prefer to transact with a limited number of large suppliers. Consequently, he stressed the urgent need for MSMEs in Surat to scale up their operations, adopt innovative practices, and integrate effectively with the global supply chain.
Chamber President Nikhil Madrasi stated that the organization is committed to keeping the industry updated and enhancing its export potential through such knowledge-based initiatives. The event saw the presence of Chamber Vice President Ashok Jirawala, Honorary Treasurer CA Mitesh Modi, and other office bearers. The textile expert was introduced by Textile Task Force Chairman Ashish Gujarati, while Group Chairman Girdhargopal Mundra outlined the framework of the festival. The session was moderated by GFRRC Co-Chairman Amrish Bhatt, and Honorary Minister Bijal Jariwala delivered the vote of thanks. Guidance from experts on various industry issues is set to continue during the subsequent days of the Textile Festival.
