Surat begins special intensive revision of electoral rolls; door-to-door verification underway till December 4

Surat, November 4: A special intensive revision of the voter list has commenced across Surat district, with booth-level officers set to conduct door-to-door verification through December 4 to confirm voter details and collect the mandatory EF-S counting forms. District Election Officer and Collector Dr Saurabh Pardhi outlined the programme at a press conference held at the collectorate, noting that the exercise is aimed at strengthening the accuracy of the rolls ahead of publication timelines.

As per agency report, the campaign will run in six phases, with the final electoral roll scheduled for release on February 7, 2026. Officials said the draft roll will be issued on December 9, 2025, after which claims and objections will be accepted and hearings will continue up to January 31, 2026. Decisions of the Electoral Registration Officer will be open to a first appeal at the district magistrate level and a second appeal before the Chief Electoral Officer.

Under the verification protocol, each voter is required to furnish the EF-S counting form. If a voter is not available during the initial visit, the BLO will make up to three attempts before submitting the case details to the ERO/AERO. The administration underscored that names may not be included in the final roll if the required form is not returned, and urged residents to cooperate with BLOs during household visits.

The collector noted that the last comparable district-wide exercise was undertaken during 2002–04, and described the present revision as essential to uphold democratic processes and maintain precise records. Training has already been provided to around 5,500 BLOs and staff between October 28 and November 3, with the option to enlist private volunteers if needed to ensure coverage and compliance. The briefing was attended by Additional District Election Officer Vijay Rabari along with representatives from print and electronic media.
