Mandhana, Rodrigues and Deepti named in ICC Women’s World Cup Team of the Tournament

Dubai, November 4: India’s Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma have been named in the ICC Team of the Tournament following their pivotal roles in India’s title-winning run at the Women’s ODI World Cup. India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final played in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, capping a dominant campaign that featured match-defining performances from the trio.

As per agency report, South Africa also earned three berths in the XI, with captain Laura Wolvaardt appointed skipper of the side after compiling 571 runs at an average of 71.37, the highest aggregate by any batter in a single Women’s World Cup. Semi-finalists Australia contributed Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner and leg-spinner Alana King, while England’s Sophie Ecclestone was included after leading her team to the last four and Natalie Sciver-Brunt was listed as the twelfth player. Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz was the only selection from a team that did not reach the semi-finals.

Mandhana finished as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer with 434 runs at 54.25, including one century and two half-centuries, setting strong platforms at the top of the order. Rodrigues aggregated 292 runs at 58.40 with one century and one fifty, highlighted by an unbeaten 127 in the semi-final against Australia that propelled India into the title clash. Deepti delivered an all-round masterclass, scoring 215 runs at 30.71 and topping the wicket charts with 22 at 20.40; in the final she struck 58 and returned figures of five for 39 to seal the trophy and was subsequently adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

The Team of the Tournament features Smriti Mandhana of India, Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa as captain, Jemimah Rodrigues of India, Marizanne Kapp of South Africa, Ashleigh Gardner of Australia, Deepti Sharma of India, Annabel Sutherland of Australia, Nadine de Klerk of South Africa, Sidra Nawaz of Pakistan as wicketkeeper, Alana King of Australia and Sophie Ecclestone of England, with Natalie Sciver-Brunt of England named as the twelfth player.
