Aamir Khan to Receive First-Ever R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence
Mumbai. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who last appeared in the film Taare Zameen Par, is set to make a comeback to the silver screen soon. Meanwhile, he is all set to receive a unique honour that makes him the first actor in Bollywood to be recognized with this distinction.
As per agency report, the family of legendary cartoonist R.K. Laxman has instituted a special recognition titled the “R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence” to honour his legacy. Aamir Khan has been chosen as the first recipient of this prestigious award. To mark the occasion, a live concert by music maestro A.R. Rahman will be held on November 23, 2025, at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune, starting at 5 p.m.
R.K. Laxman’s daughter-in-law Usha Laxman told the media that the award ceremony is a heartfelt tribute to the late cartoonist’s life and work, and presenting the first award to Aamir Khan is a symbolic way of celebrating his enduring legacy.
R.K. Laxman was one of India’s most celebrated cartoonists, best known for his iconic character “The Common Man” and his long-running cartoon strip You Said It, which appeared in The Times of India. He also illustrated the classic TV series Malgudi Days, based on stories written by his brother R.K. Narayan. Laxman passed away in 2015 at the age of 93 at Pune’s Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
Aamir Khan, with a career spanning over three decades, has received numerous awards and accolades, including nine Filmfare Awards and four National Awards. He was conferred the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010. In 2017, the Chinese government also honoured him with a special recognition. Currently, Aamir Khan is producing the film Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol.
