Gujarat State Government Greenlights New Industrial Estates in 13 Districts
Industries Minister Announces In-Principle Approval for Pre-Feasibility Reports to Establish 21 New GIDCs
Ahmedabad, Gujarat - The Gujarat state government has taken a decisive step towards bolstering industry and enhancing employment by granting in-principle approval for the establishment of 21 new Gujarat Industrial Development Corporations (GIDCs) across 13 districts.
The approval follows an examination of the pre-feasibility reports that assessed the outright availability of land, the local demand, area-specific factors, and agricultural production viability for the proposed GIDCs. This development was announced during the assembly session by Industries Minister Balwant Singh Rajput.
"These new GIDCs will be set up in key taluks across the state, including Rajkot, Mehsana, Mahisagar, Bharuch, Banaskantha, Patan, Chhota Udepur, Gir Somnath, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Amreli, Anand and Junagadh," shared Minister Rajput in his address to the Vidhansabha during the budget session. He further named Tharad, Vadgam, Lavana, Bhildi, Palanpur, and Ahmedabad's Gangad, among other areas, as future GIDC sites.
In a response to a question posed by Congress MLA Amit Chavda, the government revealed that, despite GIDCs significantly contributing to the state's industrial upliftment and local employment, there are currently no GIDCs in 104 talukas of Gujarat. However, local commercial employment arrangements exist in 147 talukas.
The approval of these new GIDCs signals the state government's ongoing commitment to supporting the industrial sector and prioritizing local employment opportunities. The Industries Department will conduct further studies on land availability and necessary infrastructural support for industrial development.
