Surat records 82nd successful organ donation at New Civil Hospital, giving new life to three patients

Surat, October 29 : The New Civil Hospital in Surat witnessed its 82nd successful organ donation today, marking another milestone in the city’s growing awareness towards organ donation. As per agency report, the family of 62-year-old Dalpatbhai Prabhubhai Patel, a resident of Udhna in Surat and originally from Adol village in Bharuch district, made a noble decision to donate his liver and both kidneys after he was declared brain-dead. This act of generosity will give a new lease of life to three patients in need of organ transplants.

Dalpatbhai Patel, who worked as a security guard, sustained a severe head injury after collapsing due to dizziness on October 24 around noon. He was immediately rushed to the New Civil Hospital through a 108 ambulance service. Despite intensive treatment, doctors led by neurologist Dr. Jay Patel and neurosurgeon Dr. Keyur Prajapati declared him brain-dead on October 28.

Following the declaration, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) team, including Dr. Ketan Nayak and Dr. Nilesh Kachhadia, along with Gujarat Nursing Council vice president Iqbal Kadiwala and trained counsellors, sensitively explained the importance of organ donation to the bereaved family. Overcoming their grief, Dalpatbhai’s wife Hansaben, son Jaydeepbhai, and daughters Parulben, Amritaben, and Ilakshiben consented to donate his organs for the greater good.

The liver and both kidneys of the late Dalpatbhai Patel were sent to IKD Hospital in Ahmedabad for further transplantation procedures. Under the guidance of Medical Superintendent Dr. Dharitri Parmar, the doctors, nursing staff, and volunteers of New Civil Hospital played a vital role in ensuring the smooth completion of the process.

This 82nd successful organ donation at New Civil Hospital stands as a powerful testament to Surat’s humanitarian spirit and growing civic awareness, reaffirming the city’s commitment to saving lives through organ donation.
