Ilaiyaraaja tells court two more of his compositions used without permission in new Tamil film
Chennai, October 23 – Renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja informed the Madras High Court that two more of his musical compositions were used without his permission in a recently released Tamil film. The revelation came during the hearing of his petition against three music companies, including Sony Music Entertainment India Pvt. Ltd.
As per agency report, Ilaiyaraaja’s counsel argued before the bench on Wednesday that two of the veteran composer’s songs were used in the Tamil film “Dude,” starring Pradeep Ranganathan, without obtaining authorization. The petition accuses the companies of “unauthorized use” of the artist’s copyrighted works.
The judge directed Ilaiyaraaja to file a separate petition specifically concerning this new allegation. Earlier, Sony Music had submitted details of its earnings from Ilaiyaraaja’s songs to the court in a sealed envelope, stating that the Supreme Court had sought the composer’s response to its plea for transferring the copyright-related case from the Bombay High Court to the Madras High Court.
However, the Madras High Court refused to accept the sealed envelope since a related matter is already pending before the Supreme Court. The case has now been adjourned for further hearing on November 19.
