Surat Airport Terminal Expansion Nears Completion: Poised to Accommodate 1,800 Passengers per Hour

The major expansion at Surat airport is nearing completion, with 94 percent of the terminal building's expansion work already finished. This significant upgrade is expected to boost the terminal's capacity to handle up to 1,800 passengers per hour, marking a significant leap in the facility's capabilities.

The Airport Authority of India has detailed the developments, revealing that works valued at INR 353.25 crore are currently underway, including the expansion of the terminal building, apron, parallel taxi track, and the addition of a new canopy.

The terminal construction, valued at INR 138.48 crore, is in its final stages, while the apron widening and parallel taxi track work, priced at INR 63.13 crore, is 72 percent complete. The INR 15.57 crore canopy construction in front of the terminal building is also progressing swiftly.

Upon completion, the terminal will provide additional amenities including five aerobridges and five casual lounges. This comes as demand for flights from Surat to other cities continues to rise.

There are high expectations for the commencement of more international flights following the completion of these development works. The new building at Surat airport has been under construction for the past four years. Currently, the only international flight operating from Surat airport is a route to Sharjah. However, with the imminent completion of the terminal expansion, Surat is set to cement its position as a key aviation hub.
