Online food delivery surges during festive season as Swiggy and Magicpin record sharp rise in orders

New Delhi, October 19 – As India embraces the festive spirit, online food delivery platforms Swiggy and Magicpin have witnessed a remarkable surge in orders, highlighting how indulgence in delicious meals has become an integral part of the country’s celebrations.

As per agency report, Magicpin CEO and co-founder Anshoo Sharma stated that the platform is gearing up to handle even higher order volumes as Diwali approaches. Swiggy’s Chief Business Officer for the food marketplace, Siddharth Bhakoo, mentioned that the company expects to double last year’s food order numbers during this festive season.

Bhakoo noted that major metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are leading the trend with strong demand, while emerging cities including Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vadodara have also shown notable enthusiasm. Chocolates, live cakes, and sweets topped the list of most-ordered items, with Kolkata continuing its long-standing love for biryani. Bhakoo added that these trends reflect how food delivery has become a central part of India’s festive celebrations.

Magicpin’s CEO echoed similar sentiments, revealing that during Navratri, there was a nearly 40 percent increase in orders for vegetarian meals and thalis. After Dussehra, demand for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes surged as consumers returned to their regular food preferences.

The platform also recorded a 2.5-fold rise in bulk and party food orders following Navratri, a trend that sustained through the second week of October. On October 10 alone, food orders were up by 30 percent compared to normal days, underscoring the growing appetite for online dining during India’s festive season.
