Surat's Outer Ring Road Nears Completion: Municipal Commissioner Inspects the Progress
Work on Various Packages Progressing Swiftly, Reducing Travel Distances and Boosting Connectivity
Construction of Surat's ambitious Outer Ring Road project, which promises to enhance city connectivity and ease traffic congestion, is progressing swiftly, with significant sections nearing completion. On Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal visited the 13-kilometer stretch of the 17.32-kilometer-long, 45-meter-wide Outer Ring Road. She also inspected the Tapi Bridge connecting Abrama-Valak.
Agarwal expressed satisfaction with the progress of six key construction packages, most of which are nearing completion. These sections are set to be opened gradually as soon as the construction work concludes. Except for Package-E, the rest of the sections are anticipated to be completed within the next two to three months.
Specifically, Package-1A from Variav Junction to Kosad is 98% complete; Package-1B from Bharthana Village to Abrama Road is also 98% finished. Progress on Package-1C, which runs from Y Junction Garhpur Road to Sania Hemad, stands at 95%, while Package-1D from Sania Hemad to Kadodara Road is 98% completed. Package-1E, consisting of Railway Over Bridge-Kosad-Bharthana, Fly Over-Valak to Kamrej Road, Underpass to Y Junction Garhpur, is 35% done. Package-2 from Tapi Bridge to Abrama Road-Valak Village is 98% complete. The construction of these sections reduces the travel distance from Abrama to Valak from 6-7 km down to a mere 1.3 km.
With regard to the remaining 10.45-kilometer stretch of the Outer Ring Road, Agarwal revealed that its estimated cost stands at INR 387 crores. She instructed officials to expedite the process of cost estimation and tendering to ensure that work begins promptly.
Once completed, the Outer Ring Road will provide improved connectivity to major thoroughfares, including State Highway 6 (Surat-Olpad Road), State Highway 169 (Surat-Dandi Road), State Highway 601 (Jothan Diversion Road), State Highway 168 (Ichhapore-Navi Pardi Road), Mota Varachha Gothan Road, and State Highway 602 (Mota Varachha-Abrama-Kathor Road).
