India Need 58 Runs to Win Second Test Against West Indies
New Delhi – India are just 58 runs away from victory in the second Test against the West Indies after a strong all-round performance led by bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed three wickets each, followed by a steady batting display from KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan. As per agency report, at stumps on the fourth day on Monday, India reached 63 for one while chasing a target of 121 runs, with nine wickets still in hand.
Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their second innings from 173 for two and managed to post 390 before being bowled out, despite facing a follow-on. Shai Hope completed a well-deserved century, scoring 103 off 214 balls with 12 fours and two sixes before being bowled by Mohammed Siraj. This was Hope’s third Test century and his first against India, ending an eight-year wait since his last hundred in 2017.
John Campbell also made a fine contribution, hitting 115 runs off 199 balls, including 12 boundaries and three sixes, to become the first West Indian batsman in seven years to score a Test century against India. He was dismissed leg before wicket by Ravindra Jadeja after a composed innings.
Kuldeep Yadav played a key role in dismantling the West Indies middle order, removing Tevin Imlach (12), captain Roston Chase (40), and Khary Pierre (0). Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Jomel Warrican (3) and Anderson Phillip (2), while Siraj finished with two wickets. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one wicket each.
For the West Indies, Justin Greaves provided late resistance with a gritty half-century, scoring 50 runs off 85 balls. He and Jayden Seales added 79 runs for the tenth wicket, frustrating the Indian bowlers for more than 22 overs before Bumrah ended their stand.
Chasing 121 for victory, India lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal early for eight runs, caught by Anderson Phillip off Jomel Warrican. However, KL Rahul (25 not out) and Sai Sudharsan (30 not out) steadied the innings with an unbeaten partnership. At the close of play, India were comfortably placed at 63 for one and are expected to wrap up the match on the final day to seal the series win.
India had earlier declared their first innings at 518 for five, giving them a massive advantage that proved decisive in setting up the likely victory.
