KL Rahul aims to improve home Test record, focuses on adapting batting approach
Ahmedabad, October 3. Indian batsman KL Rahul acknowledged on Friday that despite a career spanning over a decade, he has scored only two Test centuries on home soil. He added that he has been working hard to change this record and adapt his batting to Indian conditions. Rahul reached his 11th Test century on the second day of the opening Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, marking his first century at home since 2016, which also came against the same team in Chennai.
As per agency report, Rahul, who delivered an impressive performance during the England tour, spoke about his evolving batting approach after the day’s play. When asked about his limited number of home centuries, he said he has spent the past year focusing on maintaining his rhythm at the crease and enjoying phases of the game that earlier felt less exciting. He emphasized that he is putting in significant effort to convert singles and doubles more effectively while playing in Indian conditions, something he struggled with earlier in his career.
Rahul explained that batting in overseas conditions, where there is extra bounce and swing, poses different challenges compared to Indian pitches, where scoring boundaries can be difficult, especially when three spinners are in operation. This makes strike rotation through singles and doubles a key factor in building an innings at home. He shared that he has worked on making a mental shift to enjoy this aspect of the game and has dedicated the past year to improving his ability to build big scores through consistent strike rotation.
He concluded that this change in approach is the main difference compared to his earlier home performances, and he is determined to continue refining this aspect of his batting to achieve more success in domestic Tests.
