Surat Gets 40 New GSRTC Buses, Including 5 Low-Fare Volvo Coaches

Surat – In a major boost to public transport, the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has introduced 40 new buses in Surat, including 5 Volvo coaches. State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi flagged off the new fleet, highlighting that the initiative aims to provide passengers with better facilities at lower fares.

As per report, the newly launched Volvo buses are around 25 percent cheaper than the existing Volvo services, making premium travel more affordable for commuters. With this expansion, Surat will now have 1,600 additional bus trips daily, expected to reduce overcrowding and make journeys more convenient.

The 2x2 Volvo coaches come with modern amenities such as adjustable reclining seats, charging stations, overhead entertainment screens, and night lighting for passenger comfort. Sanghavi praised the efforts of GSRTC officials and staff, noting that the department had recorded an unprecedented rise of 2.15 lakh additional passengers in just the last two months. He also said that more buses would be introduced ahead of the upcoming state festival season.

The state government continues to extend financial support to GSRTC, with benefits worth over Rs. 500 crore provided to employees, including dearness allowance parity with state government staff and job opportunities for dependents. This is the first time in the corporation’s history that such equal allowances have been granted.

During the ceremony, Sanghavi also spoke about the Navratri initiative “Operation Sindoor,” under which more than 70,000 people have already witnessed Garba performances. He congratulated performers and organizers for reviving the patriotic tradition through the festive celebrations.
