Unique Tattoos of India’s Women Cricketers Reflect Strength, Belief, and Identity

New Delhi, September 22 – As the Women’s World Cup approaches, several Indian players have revealed the special tattoos they carry as symbols of strength, inspiration, and identity. From Lord Hanuman to the Bengal Tiger and the eagle, these tattoos represent personal beliefs and sporting spirit.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma, who scored 72 runs in the final ODI against Australia last week, said the Hanuman tattoo on her left arm gives her courage during tough times. With 1,891 runs and 91 wickets in 80 ODIs, Deepti explained during an appearance on Jio Hotstar’s “Off the Pitch” program that whenever she feels uncertain in matches, she draws strength from thinking about Hanuman, which helps her stay positive. Despite her innings, India fell short by 43 runs while chasing 413, losing the ODI series 1-2. The team will next face Sri Lanka in their World Cup opener in Guwahati on September 30.

Spinner Sneh Rana has multiple tattoos with deep meanings. One of them carries the word “Virodhi” (opponent), symbolizing her resolve to fight against odds. Another reads “Tava Dhairyam Tava Balam Asti,” which she says helps her stay calm and composed. Additionally, she has tattoos of a lion and an eagle on her calf, representing courage, leadership, independence, sharp vision, and alertness. The 31-year-old has represented India in 22 ODIs and 22 T20Is.

Young all-rounder Richa Ghosh, who broke into India’s World Cup squad in 2020 at the age of 16, sports a Bengal Tiger tattoo on her left arm. Hailing from Siliguri in West Bengal, she considers it a mark of pride in her roots. She recalled how senior teammate Rana once sketched a tiger on her arm during a journey, and she promised her family she would make it permanent if she got selected for the national team.

As per agency report, these tattoos are more than just body art for the cricketers. They embody strength, resilience, and a sense of belonging, inspiring players to overcome challenges as they prepare to represent India on the world stage.
