National Nutrition Month Celebrations Begin in Rajkot with Focus on Health and Awareness
Rajkot – In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call of “Sahi Poshan, Desh Roshan,” September is being observed across the country as National Nutrition Month. As part of the initiative, celebrations began at around 1,360 anganwadi centers in Rajkot district to raise awareness on nutrition and healthy living.
Under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and the guidance of Women and Child Welfare Minister Bhanuben Babaria, the state government has been undertaking innovative measures to prevent malnutrition and improve the nutritional status of women and children. The Women and Child Development Department, Health Department, and community organizations are actively participating to ensure the campaign’s success.
A meeting chaired by Rajkot Collector Dr. Om Prakash brought together representatives from multiple departments including health, education, agriculture, panchayat, rural development, labor, and employment. Each department presented its action plan to contribute to the success of the nutrition campaign.
The program encourages citizens to avoid sweets, salty snacks, oily food, and junk food, and instead adopt a diet rich in nutrients. The campaign also reiterated the commitment towards a “Healthy and Obesity-Free Gujarat.” Special focus areas during National Nutrition Month include improving dietary practices for newborns and young children, enhancing male participation in child nutrition and care, and promoting the “Vocal for Local” initiative.
On Mamta Divas, the Health Department conducted health check-ups for underweight pregnant women and vaccinated children. Mothers were provided counseling on nutrition and health, while women participants took a “Nutrition Pledge” to commit themselves towards better dietary practices.
As per report, the campaign has been designed not only to spread awareness but also to bring about long-term changes in lifestyle and eating habits, ensuring healthier future generations.
