Surat Chamber sends 7,000 sarees worth Rs 12 lakh to Punjab flood victims

Surat, Sept 12 – The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has extended humanitarian support to flood-affected communities in Punjab by dispatching 7,000 sarees valued at Rs 12 lakh. The relief consignment was sent on Friday night through the District Industries Centre, Surat, for onward distribution in the disaster-hit regions.

SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi said that recent heavy rains and flooding had caused widespread devastation across several towns and villages in Punjab, leaving thousands of families homeless and struggling with acute shortages of food and clothing. The chamber decided to provide immediate relief, with sarees specially arranged to address the urgent needs of women in the affected areas.

The initiative was undertaken under the SGCCI Relief Fund, with active participation from trustees including president Nikhil Madrasi, vice president Ashok Jirawala, former president Vijay Mewawala, honorary secretary Bijal Jariwala, honorary treasurer CA Mitesh Modi, and past presidents Ramesh Vaghasiya, Himanshu Bodawala, Ashish Gujarati, Dinesh Navadiya and CA P.M. Shah.

The trustees emphasized that such times of natural calamity call for collective responsibility from all sections of society. They highlighted that the business community is not limited to commercial activities alone but is equally committed to contributing to social welfare and extending timely support to those in need.

The sarees will be distributed among flood victims with the assistance of local administration in Punjab, providing much-needed relief to women and families grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.
