Special session on Vadodara’s birdlife held at Anand Vidya Vihar School

Vadodara – SoClean Youth Wing organized a special talk at Anand Vidya Vihar School on the theme “Know the Birds of Vadodara and Surroundings,” attended by around 100 students of Class 9. The interactive session aimed at introducing students to the rich diversity of local and migratory bird species and raising awareness about their conservation.

The program began with Dr. Sangeeta Patel, who spoke about SoClean’s initiatives and the environmental awareness campaigns conducted by its youth wing. She emphasized that the purpose of the session was to help students appreciate the variety of bird species and understand the importance of protecting them.

Biodiversity expert, birdwatcher, and wildlife photographer Avi Sabavala Banerjee then delivered a vibrant presentation, showcasing detailed insights into several species including the Ruddy Shelduck, Cormorant, Red-wattled Lapwing, Red-naped Ibis, Flamingo, Heron, Kingfisher, Green Bee-eater, and Cattle Egret. She elaborated on their habitats, feeding habits, and unique features, while also addressing students’ questions about issues such as the growing pigeon population, similarities in male and female birds, and the fascinating physical adaptations of different species.

School Principal Purnima Menon praised SoClean’s consistent efforts in environmental protection and commended the initiative for inspiring young minds. The event was attended by teacher coordinators Shaily Dave, Nalini Iyer, Prashasti Majmudar, and Shraddha Shirsat, along with SoClean representatives Chaitanya Kulkarni and Anjana Mahida.

The session concluded with students gaining a deeper understanding of Vadodara’s avian diversity and a renewed sense of responsibility towards preserving the natural environment.
