Surat ranks third in Swachh Vayu Survey 2025, remains Gujarat’s only city in top 10

Surat – Surat has once again secured a place among India’s clean air leaders, ranking third in the Swachh Vayu Survey 2025 announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Out of 300 cities assessed nationwide, Surat emerged as the only city from Gujarat to feature in the top 10.

Mayor Dakshesh Mavani and Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agrawal received the award and a cheque of Rs. 25 lakh from Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav at a ceremony held at Indira Paryavaran Bhavan in New Delhi.

Surat’s ranking saw a slight decline compared to last year, when it topped the survey with 194 points. In 2025, despite improving to 196 points, the city slipped to third place. Indore secured the top spot with a perfect score of 200, followed by Jabalpur with 199 points, while Agra and Surat shared the third position with 196 points each.

Surat’s journey in the rankings reflects consistent progress: 13th place in 2023 with 170.5 points, first place in 2024 with 194 points, and third place in 2025 with 196 points. The evaluation criteria included solid waste management, road dust control, construction and demolition waste management, vehicle emissions, industrial emissions, and public awareness initiatives.

Although the drop in rank has sparked debate within the administration, experts emphasize that being among the top three cities out of 300 remains a significant achievement. They believe this recognition will further motivate city authorities to strengthen pollution control and cleanliness efforts, ensuring Surat continues to set an example for urban environmental management.
