Sports competitions mark National Sports Day celebrations in Rajkot
Rajkot, August – On the occasion of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary, celebrated as National Sports Day, volleyball and tug-of-war competitions were organized on Sunday at the Police Headquarters campus. The event was jointly hosted by the Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities of the Gujarat government and the Gujarat Sports Authority. A total of eight men’s and women’s teams representing the police, municipal corporation, district panchayat, and collector’s office took part, with around 170 players showcasing their skills in thrilling contests.
The tug-of-war event turned into an exciting battle of strength. The women’s teams of the district collector’s office and the district education officer faced off, pulling the rope with full force as soon as the whistle blew. After a prolonged struggle, the district collector’s women’s team emerged victorious.
The volleyball match also kept spectators on edge with its intensity. The Rajkot district collector’s team clashed with the Rajkot city police team in a fast-paced encounter. Points alternated between the two sides as the collector’s team made smart plays while the police team countered with strong defense. The lively atmosphere was amplified by applause and cheering from the audience.
Before the competitions began, Police Commissioner Brajesh Kumar Jha and Collector Dr. Om Prakash also joined in a volleyball game to encourage the players. On this occasion, international yoga guru Poorvi administered the “Fit India” pledge to those present, highlighting the importance of fitness and wellness.
As per agency report, the program was attended by Resident Additional Collector A.K. Gautam, District Development Officer Anandu Suresh Govind, Regional Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Jani, Additional Police Commissioner Mahendra Bagadia, Deputy Police Commissioner Sajjan Singh Parmar, Rakesh Desai, Jagdish Bangarwa, and officials and staff from various departments. The event brought together administration and police personnel in a celebration of sportsmanship and fitness.
