Shymkent, Kazakhstan, August 26 – India’s women shooters delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Shooting Championship on Tuesday, clinching the gold medal in the 50m Rifle Three Positions event. The trio of Olympian Sift Kaur Samra, Anjum Moudgil, and Aashi Chouksey combined to secure the top podium finish with a total score of 1753 points.

World record holder Samra led the way with a score of 589, while Aashi shot 586 and Anjum contributed 578. Their combined effort placed India ahead of Japan, who finished second with 1750 points, and South Korea, who took the bronze with 1745 points.

As per agency report, Samra and Aashi also advanced to the individual finals, ranking second and fifth in qualification respectively. India’s Shriyanka Sadangi topped the qualification round but was competing only for ranking points, allowing Samra and Aashi to qualify for the final in first and fourth positions. Two-time Olympian Anjum, however, could only finish 22nd among 41 competitors in the qualification stage.

This triumph comes a day after national champion Neeru Dhanda secured gold for India in the women’s trap event, adding to the country’s growing medal tally at the championship.

India’s strong showing underscores its rising dominance in shooting sports, with multiple athletes consistently reaching the finals and securing podium finishes at the continental level.
