Surat NCH Records 76th Organ Donation as Tapi Resident Gives Gift of Life

Surat – The New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat has once again set a remarkable example of humanity with its 76th successful organ donation. The case involves 65-year-old Keshanji Chhaganbhai Gamit, a resident of Alkamla village in Vyara taluka of Tapi district, whose selfless act will provide new life to three critically ill patients. His two kidneys and liver have been sent to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad for transplantation.

According to reports, Keshanji suffered a severe head injury on August 17 after collapsing due to sudden dizziness. He was first treated at Vyara General Hospital before being shifted to New Civil Hospital in Surat via 108 ambulance. Despite intensive treatment, doctors declared him brain dead at 10 p.m. on August 21.

As per report, the SOTTO team and counselors explained the significance of organ donation to the family, who agreed to proceed, calling it a duty to humanity. His wife and children, belonging to a tribal family, expressed deep sensitivity, saying that since their family had endured the pain of dialysis and kidney ailments, organ donation was a greater service than even “kanyadaan.”

Before the donation process, a prayer meeting was held where Dilipdada Deshmukh, founder of Angdaan Charitable Trust, praised the family’s spirit of service. He emphasized that organ donations in brain-dead cases remain a major need in society.

The organ donation was successfully carried out under the guidance of NCH Medical Superintendent Dr. Dharitri Parmar, with the coordinated efforts of doctors, nursing staff, security personnel, sanitation workers, and volunteers. The act once again highlights how awareness and compassion can transform personal grief into a source of hope and life for others.
