ICC Replaces Bengaluru with Mumbai as Venue for Women’s ODI World Cup

New Delhi, August 22 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Friday that Mumbai will replace Bengaluru as one of the five venues for next month’s Women’s One Day International (ODI) World Cup due to unforeseen circumstances.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 30, with Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium set to host five matches, including three league games, one semifinal, and potentially the final. The change became necessary after Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was declared unavailable.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah said that while the shift in venue was unavoidable, the tournament still retains five world-class locations where fans will witness the best of women’s cricket. He added that the stage is set for the championship to inspire a new generation of supporters and give wings to fresh aspirations in the sport.

As per agency report, the other venues for the eight-team competition include Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo. Although ICC did not specify the exact reasons behind Bengaluru’s exclusion, it is believed the Karnataka State Cricket Association was unable to secure the necessary approvals to host the event.

Earlier this year, after a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebrations, the Chinnaswamy Stadium was deemed unfit to host large-scale competitions, prompting the shift to Mumbai.
