Nigerian National Arrested in Connection with a Major Drug Trafficking Case; Drugs Destined for Delhi

Multi-Agency Operation Seizes Rs 214 Crore Worth of Drugs in Rajkot

Rajkot, India - In a major drug bust, a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Crime Bureau (NCB) Delhi, and Surat City Crime Branch seized 30.6 kilograms of drugs, valued at approximately Rs 214 crore, near Khanderi Stadium in Rajkot. The narcotics were reportedly smuggled from Pakistan and were destined for Delhi. A Nigerian man identified as Okoyo was arrested at the scene as he arrived to take delivery of the drugs.

Upon the arrest, Okoyo was presented in court, where he was remanded into custody for 12 days. The multi-agency operation is now gearing up for further action.

The successful bust was based on intelligence provided by ACP Bhavesh Rozia of the Surat Crime Branch to Gujarat ATS DIG Deepan Bhadran. The information indicated that a notorious drug mafia in Karachi, Pakistan, run by Haji Anwar, had smuggled a large consignment of heroin into Gujarat via a boat.

A local contact named Jafar had reportedly stashed the drugs near a dirt road close to Khanderi on the route from Rajkot to Jamnagar. Another individual, Bablu, was tasked with loading the narcotics into a vehicle for delivery to Okoyo.

Subsequent to the information, a team from Gujarat ATS, Surat Crime Branch, and NCB Delhi traced Okoyo, who had come from Delhi to take delivery of the consignment. The team found 31 plastic packets containing 30.66 kg of heroin, with a market value of Rs 214.62 crore, which were then seized.

This major drug bust highlights the ongoing efforts by Indian law enforcement agencies to combat illicit drug trafficking in the region.
