Western Railway's Ticket Checking Drive Nets Rs 16.76 Crore in April

Surat, India - Western Railway's intensified ticket checking campaign has led to the recovery of Rs 16.76 crore in April. The operation was a part of the railway's continuous efforts to offer a hassle-free, comfortable journey and improved services to all passengers.

In a determined bid to curb the menace of ticketless travel, Western Railway took action across stations from Mumbai to Kosad. The drive was especially successful in the Mumbai Suburban Division, where Rs 4.71 crore was recuperated from ticketless passengers.

During the course of the campaign, Western Railway identified a whopping 2.46 lakh passengers travelling without valid tickets or carrying unbooked baggage. An amount of Rs 16.76 crore was subsequently collected from them, marking a significant dent in the issue of ticketless travel.

On the Mumbai suburban section alone, 83,522 cases of ticketless travel were detected in April, leading to fines totalling Rs 4.71 crore. In an additional effort to maintain order and comfort, Western Railway launched surprise checks to deter unauthorized entry into air-conditioned local trains.

The railway's stringent enforcement drive also had a notable impact on unauthorized travel. In April 2023, over 6,300 unauthorized passengers were fined, resulting in the recovery of Rs 21.34 lakh. This figure represents a remarkable increase of 238.19 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
