Rajkot Hosts Its First-Ever Sanskrit Pride Rally and Weeklong Festival Celebrating Ancient Language and Culture

For the first time in the history of Rajkot, the city witnessed a grand inauguration of the Sanskrit Pride Rally and Sanskrit Week Festival on Monday at the New Era School campus. The event was graced by the presence of Mayor Nayanaben Pedhadiya and MLA Dr. Darshitaben Shah, who formally launched the celebrations. Approximately 1,700 students participated in the rally, which featured vibrant tableaux portraying India’s ancient heritage, sending a powerful message about the significance of Sanskrit to the citizens of Rajkot.

Organized by the State Sanskrit Board under the Education Department of the Government of Gujarat, the Sanskrit Week Festival is being held from August 6 to August 12. The rally commenced from New Era School and culminated at District Panchayat Chowk, drawing enthusiastic participation from students representing 35 different schools across the city.

As per report, Mayor Nayanaben Pedhadiya emphasized the scientific and ancient nature of Sanskrit, urging people to reconnect with their linguistic roots amidst growing Western influence. She encouraged everyone to learn, understand, and incorporate Sanskrit into their daily lives. Echoing similar sentiments, MLA Dr. Darshitaben Shah described Sanskrit as the mother of all languages and the foundation of Indian culture. She highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Gujarat government to promote and preserve Sanskrit for future generations.

The program also showcased an array of captivating cultural performances by students. Highlights included a patriotic dance on the song 'Bhavatu Bharatam', a classical dance by Sarojini Naidu Girls’ School, a devotional dance on the ‘Madhurashtakam’ by New Era School students, a Sanskrit-themed Garba by students of Dharmendra Singh Art College, and a dramatic recital of verses from the Bhagavad Gita featuring characters of Lord Krishna and Arjuna.

During the event, representatives from various banks and school administrators were felicitated with mementoes, and a special exhibition of Sanskrit literature, artifacts, and books drew appreciation from attendees. Students who participated in the rally were provided with special caps to commemorate their involvement.

The program began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and devotional hymns. Guests were welcomed with floral bouquets and books. District Education Officer Dixitbhai Patel delivered the welcome address, while the event was anchored by Education Inspector Maheshbhai Dhandhukiya and teacher Bhaveshbhai Bhatt. Notably, Uttambhai Maru, known for his exceptional command over Sanskrit verses, was specially honored with a bouquet during the ceremony.

The event also saw the presence of several dignitaries including District Development Officer Anandu Suresh Govind, Deputy District Primary Education Officer Dr. Ashokbhai Vanvi, and Nodal Officer Yogeshbhai Bhatt, among others. This celebration stood as a shining example of the community’s collective effort to honor the legacy of Sanskrit and reinforce their commitment to India’s cultural roots.
