Vadodara, Gujarat: Corporation Conducts Health Checkup for Destitute, Identifies 503 Patients
In a unique initiative undertaken by the Health Department of Vadodara Corporation, a health checkup for destitute individuals including beggars, rag pickers, and homeless children was carried out. A total of 2210 people were covered in the health survey, which revealed that 503 individuals were showing symptoms of various diseases.
The corporation's health team, comprising doctors and other staff, visited areas of the city frequently inhabited by these impoverished communities. The survey included 415 children involved in rag picking and 514 elderly individuals, with a particular focus on those above 60 years of age.
The comprehensive health checkup included 1132 males and 1076 females. Of the individuals screened, 503 showed symptoms of various diseases: 177 had high blood pressure, 61 were diagnosed with diabetes, and 195 had anemia. Additionally, 16 pregnant women were identified during the checkup. These women were immediately referred to a higher medical center for better care and monitoring throughout their pregnancy.
Out of the 2210 individuals screened, 32 cases requiring specialized medical services were referred to the Medical College, while 279 patients were directed to the Urban Primary Health Center and Urban Community Health Center (UCHC) for necessary treatment.
This initiative reflects the corporation's commitment to the health of the city's most vulnerable residents and its efforts to provide necessary medical attention to those who are often neglected by society.
