Free Treatment under Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana Saves Critical Maternity Case at Rajkot Civil Hospital
Rajkot Civil Hospital has once again demonstrated how dedicated teamwork combined with effective government schemes can save lives. On the night of July 14, 2025, 27-year-old Geeta Jaydevbhai from Botad was rushed to Rajkot Civil Hospital in a critical condition due to excessive bleeding during childbirth. Her health rapidly deteriorated—she experienced slowed heart rate, difficulty breathing, and impaired functioning of the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
The situation was so dire that treatment at a private hospital would have cost between 8 to 10 lakh rupees. However, under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, her entire treatment at the civil hospital was provided completely free of charge.
A team of 15 doctors from the departments of gynecology, medicine, and anesthesiology worked tirelessly for 17 days to save the mother’s life. According to Dr. Hemali Nenuji, the patient’s condition was extremely critical, but with coordinated team efforts, both mother and newborn were safely stabilized. Dr. Deepa Gondaliya added that upon arrival, the patient's pulse and blood pressure were undetectable. She was immediately placed on a ventilator and given medications through a central line to the heart.
Dr. Dhaval Ajmera stated that the patient was battling infections in the lungs, kidneys, and liver. She underwent nine sessions of specialized slate dialysis, and additional care was taken to prevent pneumonia.
After this intensive care, both mother and child were declared healthy and have now returned home to Botad. As per agency report, this successful recovery has further strengthened public trust in government healthcare services. The exemplary medical care provided by Rajkot Civil Hospital not only showcases medical expertise but also highlights the impact of initiatives like the Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, which continues to serve as a lifeline for those in need.
