PM Modi Virtually Inaugurates Affordable Housing Units in Surat

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, virtually inaugurated 3265 affordable housing units built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Surat from Gandhinagar. This development project, a joint effort by the Surat Municipal Corporation and the government, cost over Rs 285 crore.

Modi's interaction took place during the main Awasotsav program held at Suman Mundra residence in Pal, Surat. During the event, beneficiaries of this initiative expressed their heartfelt thanks to the government. The distribution of flats spanned across three zones in Surat: 450 flats in the eighth zone, 2483 in Rander zone, and 332 in Udhna zone. This initiative marks an important milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to make Surat a slum-free city.

Adding a personal touch to the event, Modi connected virtually with one of the beneficiaries, Deepal Patel. Patel, a resident of Surat, shared her family's joy and relief at moving from a rented home to their very own house, provided by the government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. She expressed her youngest daughter's happiness by quoting her, "Modi Dada gave us a good house". The Prime Minister, touched by this sentiment, congratulated Patel on securing her new home.

The new housing units, built in various parts of Surat, comply with earthquake-resistant structural design standards. They are equipped with comprehensive facilities including water supply, drainage network, concrete roads, interlocking paver blocks, generator sets, fire systems, security rooms, attractive entrance gates, and underground and overhead water tanks with pumps. Additionally, the residences boast landscaping and gardening, enhancing their aesthetic appeal.

The inauguration event saw 3265 beneficiaries in Surat express their joy and gratitude upon receiving their new homes. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards providing affordable housing to the economically weaker sections and middle-class residents of Surat.
