Rajkot School Accused of Violating RTE Act, Leaving Parents Shocked
Parents Appeal to District Education Officer After Discovering School Operating in Two-Room Facility
RAJKOT - The management of Sunlight School in Rajkot is facing allegations of violating the Right to Education (RTE) Act, leaving parents astonished and concerned about the conditions in which their children are being educated.
The controversy began when parents, attending the admission of students under the RTE Act, were taken aback to find that the school was operating out of only two rooms in the Marwari Vas neighborhood. The school, which had supposedly been relocated from Ghanteshwar to Marwari Vas without official permission, was serving more than 80 students from classes I to VII in this limited space.
In response to the discovery, concerned parents submitted a letter to the District Education Officer detailing the situation. The education department has since issued a notice to the school.
One parent recounted their struggle to locate the school initially. After their daughter, Sanidhya, received an admission card for Sunlight Pre-School in the Ghanteshwar area, the family spent three days searching for the school. Only after consulting the District Education Officer and obtaining the phone number of the school principal, Chetanbhai Bhatti, were they able to find the school's actual location.
The parent described being taken to the school, located in a flat in Marwadiwas Gali No. 2 near Rayadhar near Ramapir Chowk, where a pantry was operating where the boys' toilet was supposed to be. Following this unsettling discovery, the parents lodged an official complaint with the District Education Officer, prompting the government to intervene. The family has since been assured that their daughter will be admitted to another school.
